Ram Charan's New Partnership in Andhra Pradesh for Waste-to-Fuel Initiative

29 September 2024

Ram Charan has signed an agreement with five municipalities in Andhra Pradesh to implement advanced waste management technology, converting unsegregated municipal waste into fuel. This initiative aligns with the company's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and supports local industries by providing low-cost energy options.

The project, led by Swachha Andhra Corporation under the guidance of Sri Gandham Chandrudu, I.A.S., Managing Director, aims to address the significant environmental and health hazards caused by legacy waste in landfills. The key issues being tackled include groundwater contamination, air pollution from methane emissions, soil degradation, and health risks to nearby residents.

Using Cryogenic Cold Plasma (CCP) Pyrolysis Technology, the pilot project will process mixed waste streams, including wet, dry, and medical waste. The technology is expected to drastically reduce the amount of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) generated and minimize waste sent to landfills. Additionally, this process will create value-added products like green electricity, ethanol, and ash, promoting a 100% circular waste management system.

Six municipalities have been selected for the pilot program, with a combined daily waste generation of over 250 tonnes. The municipalities involved are

  • Kavali: 51 TPD (Tonnes Per Day) of waste generated, 113,081 MT of legacy waste

  • Gudur (Nellore): 36 TPD, 35,569 MT of legacy waste

  • Kuppam: 15 TPD, 2,555 MT of legacy waste

  • Palakollu: 33 TPD, 25,181 MT of legacy waste

  • Tadepalligudem: 51 TPD, 14,320 MT of legacy waste

  • Bhimavaram: 69 TPD, 12,545 MT of legacy waste

This waste-to-fuel initiative will run as a pilot project for 3-6 months, with a processing capacity of 50 TPD. It will not require any financial investment from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and is expected to significantly contribute to the state’s environmental sustainability efforts.
